Just so you know exactly what it is.. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scottish_independence_referendum,_2014 Are you Scottish? What do you think? Are you British? What do you think? Voting is on the 18th September, so it's soon.. wonder what the people of Doncaster think, and... can Yorkshire vote for this next please!

I'd say it's a big gamble voting yes, I can see why people want it though. I know if it was down to me there'd be a part of me that would want to vote yes just to get away from the completely broken political system we have in the UK at the moment and try and make a better nation on our own. Things won't change anytime soon otherwise. That would be my main reason for voting yes though, although in the end I'd probably play it safe. While the idea of an independent nation may sound good, and all the good things we hear about protecting healthcare, protecting education, pensions, welfare, all these things cost money and would have to be funded from a much smaller state and how doable that would be, well, I'm no expert so I can't say. Unfortunately the general public aren't really experts either and I always consider putting such things to a public vote, same as with the possible EU referendum, I see it as incredibly risky tbh given that the people with the strongest opinions often don't have the most rational ones. So many other factors as well, it's a big gamble as I say, and I wouldn't want to gamble with the future of a nation unless it was a dead cert bet tbh.
As for Doncaster, yeah technically we are part of Scotland, lol, although I can't see the Scots contesting that one. "Doncaster? Meh, keep it"

This is brilliant, this is what Groundskeeper Willie from The Simpsons reckons. 'I've lived in America most of my life, so I've seen first hand how not to run a country!'

Last time I heard, they said it was only slightly in favor of Yes. But that's probably our media covering it up. For a change.
I think Yorkshire should deffo do that. We could dig a 20' wide moat around the entire county.

It's weird, it's like in the last elections, pretty much everyone I knew was pushing the Green vote everywhere, and then they didn't do all that well compared to what I thought they would... I guess we just all hang around with forward thinking, liberal, intelligent, world conscious people. It seems to be the sensible option for Scotland, and good luck to them, and, like it's been said already, PLEASE TAKE US WITH YOU!!
I think, I HOPE, this opens up the floodgates for more independence in the UK, all the countries should be separate, and there should be more of a division of who runs parts, counties / north/south/east/west, whatever it is, it clearly doesn't work having some self-righteous, self-serving, pompous, clueless idiots in London running the entire country.

Yeah you're right. The north and south are completely different, it's just mad how one government governs the entire UK. England could be two different counties as it is.
Have you looked into Yorkshire First? (They have no connection with those silly right-wing sausages). Pretty interesting, but I don't think much will come of them unfortunately.
It's a pretty radical suggestion, breaking off from the rest of England, but one which I think 75% + Yorkshire-folk would probably vote in favor for.

Well... I didn't expect THAT.. 55% said 'no' to independence. Amazing!
Well, not amazing. I'm amazed, especially since everyone I know from Scotland said 'yes' to it, and staunchly so, and it was spread all over. I hardly saw any support for 'no' at all. I guess it just shows that most of the circles I know are forward thinking, progressive, liberal and want change because they can see that the whole thing is fucked.
Absolutely shocked.

I know, I couldn't believe it either. All the Scottish folk I know were Yes voters too. We went up to the Isle of Arran in August and counted the Yes to No votes up there, in forms of car stickers, posters and whatnot - we counted 22 yes to 2 no.
