There's also an incredible 'team' type spirit in the Leeds scene, and band wise it is one of the most thriving places in the world. Get a fucking clue! An event like this won't 'resurrect' the local scene, in fact it opens up even more problems, and highlighting negative parts at the wrong time is detrimental. I've made comments about the scene in the past, when it was in a BAD state, 3 or 4 gig clashes on a night, audiences split or nobody supporting any gigs. People going to gigs and standing outside the whole night, just so they could say they were there, promoters competing against each other rather than helping each other towards 'the bigger picture' of the collective scene, but that's a lot less of an issue now I think. Most promoters I know talk to each other, or won't book things if they know something else related is on the same night. Obviously some clashes still occur and it's a shame they do, but it's less regular now, and there are MORE people coming out to gigs than there has been for a long while, so it's less of an issue when audiences are split. Maybe the burlesque scene isn't doing well, but doing something like this isn't going to fix it either. Totally barking up the wrong tree with this. |

Open letter is bang on. He is just tagging his event on to the closure of the Cockpit story. Totally clueless. Glad he's thought twice about the kick starter and taken it down.

I'll let folks know if there is a reply, from the Post or from him. Surprised I've not had some 'Hey man, that's well over the top' message from the chap. I kinda feel bad, but, him and the Post should have been more careful about what they say out in the great wide open. It's insane how much stuff gets spread around in a short amount of time.
