What do people think?
I'm still really into QotSA, know older fans think they've gone off the boil, especially post-Songs for the Dead, minus Nick Oliveiri, but I listened to 'Era Vulgaris' (the one before this new one) again properly this morning, and it's actually really good, got a bunch of cracking weirder parts in it and is a good album in full.
Not quite sure what to make of Like Clockwork though. If it was any other 'rock' band, I'd be into it, you can't deny the song writing talent of Josh Homme mainly, but it does seem like 'Queens Lite' to a degree. Obviously all bands should change / progress and all that, but it has stand out songs, instead of it being a complete album where every song is of a similar standard or feel.
'My God is the Sun' (brilliant title) is one of them, and a couple of others have interesting parts and ideas, 'Kalopsia' and 'I appear missing', but overall, the album meanders a bit and lacks the real punch that QotSA had, even up to their previous album.
Found out afterwards that Dave Grohl played on a few of the songs again from this album, turns out that they're most of the best ones on it. 'Songs for the deaf' is still a magnificent album, and has his awesome playing stamped all over it.
*puts their self-titled album on instead*
