Okay, so, after a week and a bit of this place being open, starting to get a better idea of what works and what might not, or needs tweaking.. any thoughts from you folks is appreciated. I think putting the 'food and drink (dining hall)' section and 'the serious room' into what is basically a general discussion section ('the daily universe'), as there seems a fair amount of crossover between what they are. food is part of daily life, as is all the politics, religion, science type stuff that may get discussed in serious bit... might make things even easier to navigate for new folks, beef up sections more, but still all feel like it's a general discussion bit. i'd like to keep a few other bits a bit more separate... but should 'the gallery' and 'the library' combine to make one general 'creative' type section? both of them have huge potential on their own, but might get beefed up moreso if they're together. 'the tech centre' i would also like to keep separate, but, then, the topics could go into stuff for daily life.. as they're generally just discussion points. was hoping that as the place grew, stuff didn't get lost, but, then I guess also, people can subscribe to topics they want to follow (you can bookmark threads). also, if we do join things together, and one topic because more popular than others, they can be separated again later on, just takes a bit of time. so, yeah, what do you folks think? anything else that could be joined? split? other ideas for sections or ways to get things out there more... been sharing some of the 'bigger' stories or posts around the place, and it's been getting people looking, a lot, just need to keep on going with that and hopefully people will stay in the end. courage sellotapethecat joebassdude mulkington actthegoat demoniac

Yeah, you could maybe have The Music Hall and The Live Area in the same spot as well.
Seems to be working well as it is is though.

I think serious should be seperate to random banter...

I did have 'the live arena' bit as a sub-section of the 'music chatter' bit, but then thought it would be a good one to have separate, since half the people we know are people in bands / to do with gigs...
Think it always looks better when new people turn up and all the sections have quite a lot in them, know it's early days though.
Could leave it another week or so, see how things go, see what others reckon too.
There's potential for all of them, guess they only need 4 or 5 people interested in each separate subject / forum to get in on the chatter and they'll get busy in no time.
Just thinking as well, it saves confusion on some things as to where they might go.

I think serious should be seperate to random banter... joebassdude's post about the plane going over was what got me thinking, as well as a couple of times when there's been videos posted (so could go in the Viewing Lounge, but then are relevant to go somewhere else) because, that's more of a random chatter, but then it could be a serious discussion too, that's where the cross over becomes blurry.. same with some serious chats, because of the nature of the people on so far, could end up having funny parts in them.

I did have a bit of a think as to where to put it.
Did I do good, or make a booboo?

But you'd be searching through all the games and stuff to try find the proper chat? Just my opinion... X

There are no booboos and all conversation and subjects are good... just made me think that some topics will fit in a grey area between general and serious so didn't know whether better to combine them.

Daily life seems to be shit that's happening everyday and people ranting and silly games. And serious room feels more like education ha. And newspaper stuff and interesting factual stuff.
I like the forum

Well, that's good Yeah, am hoping it would end up that way, would like the whole place to end up fully educational, views from all over the place, all different kinds of people on here, just needs for a few people outside of our circle of mates to get in here and it will open it up loads. It'll get there... and there's definitely good potential for this place. Usually takes a month or two before a forum can get all that established, this is good ground work though, and it's awesome even just having a few people who have really got into it.

I think things are okay as they are for now to be honest, I'd suggest keeping the serious room and the daily universe sections separate really, you'll always get overlaps and daft banter finding its way into any discussion but on the whole given there may well be intense political, religious and philosophical debate taking place in the serious part it's probably best having it separate from the more light hearted observations in the daily universe bit, even if they do overlap sometimes. The live music section I think also is best kept separate, I expect there'll be plenty of (hopefully awesome!) gigs being promoted in there so it'd be nice to have that in its own section as well.
At the moment I actually wouldn't change that much really, there's a lot of different sections but that's to be expected for a forum of this nature, only thing I'd suggest is maybe group some of them into different sections though, for example have movies, TV, books and games grouped into a larger "entertainment" section for example, have the serious room, daily universe etc in another section? I'd say have them all on the front page so they're clearly visible and easy to get to, but at the moment you've got the "Discuss 42" bit and then "Welcome to this world" which contains absolutely everything else, perhaps break that section down into a few smaller sections which group the appropriate topics? Might make the front end look a bit more accessible, just a suggestion anyway.

Aye, could be a plan that. I thought to start with I would just have everything just all in a list, so it can all be seen, that's why I took Gigs out of a sub-section quite soon after setting it up, just so it could be as visible as the other sections on first look.
Will keep that in my brain and then see how the next couple or three weeks go, and then maybe re-think about it all, seems the general consensus is a pretty good one and happy with how things are, so all good.

But you'd be searching through all the games and stuff to try find the proper chat? Just my opinion... X Fair. Eventually I'll have a Hall of Fame section where all the big threads go. Used to have it on Raw Nerve where topics with over 250 posts would get moved. Half of them were the ongoing games.

I like it how it is (that's how it is yo, that's how it is) The gig/event listings are great, don't have to scour the web.
