Nightbreed

Anyone seen this film? Watched it today for the first time in around 10 years, great film in my opinion, one that didn't do well when it was released but has become something of a cult classic I think. Based on the Clive Barker book 'Cabal' and basically about a man who's the main suspect in a series of brutal murders going on the run and searching for a place called Midian, which he believes is home to monsters. I think it didn't do so well because people were expecting a straight up horror film, which it isn't and if you're expecting one you'll likely be disappointed, also without giving too much away it basically turns the whole idea of good guys and bad guys on its head, something which I think the critics especially had a hard time accepting in the 90's. Great movie though I think, with a great concept and a really cool setting.

There's apparently a directors cut of the movie due for release in October, although that's in America, no UK release date scheduled as yet but hopefully there will be. Of more interest is I've heard there's a TV series in the pipeline based around the mythology of the film and book, something which I hope we get to see in the UK as the film was crying out to be continued, and never was since it was a commercial failure at the time. From what I've read I think four episodes have been made so far including a pilot, so we'll have to see what comes of that, but a few things to look forward to then for anyone who enjoyed the original.
