Just discovered this chap. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Foster_WallaceSeems like an absolute legend. Not read any of his stuff, but even the titles make even someone like me, not really a book reader, consider putting the time in to reading. 'Infinite Jest' 'Brief interviews with hideous men' 'A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again' There is a fan site for him, which has a big collection of his writers and more information about him. www.thehowlingfantods.com/dfw/new-to-dfw.htmlSays he suffered depression most his life, and he hung himself at the age of 48. He was definitely an incredible thinker and writer by the looks of it. Here is the transcript of a speech he gave to a graduating class in Ohio, this is the first thing I've read of his, and it's immense. Worth taking 15 minutes to have a read. web.archive.org/web/20080213082423/http://www.marginalia.org/dfw_kenyon_commencement.html"It is unimaginably hard to stay conscious and alive in the adult world day in and day out. Which means yet another grand cliché turns out to be true: your education really IS the job of a lifetime. And it commences: now. I wish you way more than luck." In fact, if you prefer to listen to it, rather than read it, it's here, just founded it, amazing. Longer (23 minutes), but, yeah, whichever you prefer, definitely do one of them.

This thread was inspired by a mate of mine who posted a quote of DFW on his wall, which is supreme.
'You will become way less concerned with what other people think of you when you realise how seldom they do.'
Perfection!
