Not sure how many gamers we have here but figured I'd start the first gaming thread with this, so if we have any gamers which gaming platforms have been your favourites? Any platform, be it handheld or mobile devices, PCs, consoles, past or present systems, which do you prefer and what games have you enjoyed most?
For me, I mean I generally prefer PC games to consoles although given my PC is pretty old I can't run much in the way of newer games, but I find there's always been a lot more variety when it comes to games. However, the machine I really liked back in the 90's was the Commodore Amiga. I think part of the reason is, at least for me, the whole gaming scene was a lot more fun back then since there wasn't a multi-billion dollar industry around it and we didn't just see the same things over and over. I think though in the 90's the Amiga kinda had a similar edge to what the PC has, just the fact it was an incredibly versatile machine and had great games covering all genres. Cannon Fodder, Speedball 2, Sensible Soccer, Lemmings, Syndicate, Populous, Eye Of The Beholder, Secret Of Monkey Island, some real classics on there, many of which are still around today in various forms, even if it's on mobile devices now.
Anyone else got any favourites?

I mainly go for PC games at the moment, stuff like RTS and first person shooters For example Command & Conquer series Call Of Duty Civilization 5 Medal Of Honor To name a few, but you sure did name some classics there too! did you ever like Dragons Lair or Space Ace?

Tbh I never actually played either but I remember seeing both of them, they were extremely impressive visually for the time, although I know the gameplay was criticised as you were basically just watching the animation and responding by pushing the joystick in the right direction at certain points. Certainly very impressive games in terms of the graphics though, and given I still play a lot of Amiga games using an emulator on my PC I should probably have a go at them
Two other games which spring to mind are Another World and Flashback, if you remember either of those? Again really impressive looking games and played pretty well too, they remade Flashback for modern systems fairly recently, I have it on the Xbox and it includes an emulated version of the original, and I think Another World is available on Android and iOS as well.

I do indeed remember them! love Flashback and try to have a rerun of it through the emulator, but on the second level I can never do that jump which is a bit hard when using keyboard!

I like Amiga a lot too, and all games mentioned for it. Flashback is one of the most solid games ever! I had it for Megadrive recently and still found it totally rock.
Im a Nintendo lad. I want to live in Mushroom Kingdom. Ive liked and kept all the consoles. All Mariokarts, most Mario and Zelda releases across time, Viewtiful Joe on Gamecube, Madworld on Wii, Pilotwings on SNES...
I like silly colourful games. Never been that much into realism in gaming, or RPG/war themed games which most of my friends are.

on the second level I can never do that jump which is a bit hard when using keyboard! If it's the jump I'm thinking of right near the start of that level yeah it's a pain, thing is a normal running jump doesn't work. If you get in position though then hold down fire, tap once in the direction you want to go but keep fire held he'll automatically make the jump and grab the ledge. Took me ages to figure that out. Which emulator do you use btw?
Billywind, yeah this is the thing, most games now tend to have realistic 3D graphics, which is great for some games but it's kind of expected of nearly all modern games and it's not always a good thing. Part of the problem with having the technology we have now is people expect it to be pushed to its limits, again great in some cases but it means a really good but simple game like Lemmings wouldn't get anywhere now. I definitely prefer the 90's era, with the Amiga, SNES and Megadrive, just more emphasis on fun and actual gameplay I found. It's good you still have the old hardware though, I think there's a fair bit of interest in retro gaming these days, just unfortunate that the games are hard to come by now via any legal source. I think I saw a boxed original copy of Moonstone for the Amiga going for about £400 on eBay!

Oh bollocks. At the last-but-one house I rented I accidentally left a box full of well kept Amiga games among a couple of things in the rafters/loftspace, he tossed them then charged me for having to do it.
Shit.
