You can do this by going here...
Profile - Edit Profile - Settings - Forum Theme > choose which you prefer.

Default is as I intended the forum to look, Laid Bare is for work browsing, it's just as plain as I could make it so it doesn't stand out too much on your screen, and I've just added Space, in keeping with this whole universe theme... here are some screenshots.

I was trying to find out a way to get rid of people's avatars on that one as well, but couldn't see it. That would make it even more stealthious.

Was thinking a few cartoon / anime type backgrounds might be pretty cool. Would be good to have a selection of about a dozen or so in there over time. Will see how things go over the next month or so, hoping now it's a bit more established and us lot are posting up plenty, and the bandcamp page is up and collecting for more compilations, it might expand a little. Hopefully anyway. Off to a good start with all the topics on here.
